Hello!
We are Guardian Angels Japan, a volunteer group of students and workers in the Tokyo metropolitan area who are patrolling around downtown and back streets mainly at night. In 1996, a total of 5000 members in 50 cities in 10 countries are taking actions in their towns together with local people.
Our predecessor was originally a local volunteer group who started beautification projects of towns and streets in South Bronx in N.Y. for a clean environment. Two years later, they started patrolling the high-crime area of subway stations and downtown completely unarmed, as they thought that they should not have any weapon privileges as citizens. |
Until now, they have continued their unarmed activities in N.Y. and other places in the world, sympathizing and cooperating with other civic groups who are working for gun control and firearms elimination.
These days, unsocial value that one cares only about oneself tends to be justified. Now is the time to think over seriously what is right, what is wrong, what we should do and what we can do.
No one wants to live in a town where people carry concealed weapons that can easily kill innocent people by individuals with short-tempered selfish ideas. In this so-called "the safest country in the world," Japanese people may not be very sensitive about danger. It is too late, however, to start thinking when you are threatened by a gun or a knife. Every citizen should raise their awareness and take concerted action in order to overcome injustice.
Every day we are making all possible efforts to protect the safety and peace of the city. |
